Our term 3 ended with deep vulnerable sharing and fun while breaking it down to some music, leaving us emotional and excited. Our emotions was stirred when a quiet, withdrawn and introverted learner, shocked his class when he boldly volunteered to show off his amazing, exciting break dance moves in our last session. Every one of his peers at that moment stood up and cheered him on. We did not understand this at the time, until one of his peers shared what the big deal was about. It was a moment of healing. We were also caught up in deep vulnerable discussions of real situations of early gang live and these young men and women being poached as well. It was encouraging to see how raw and open these young people are. How they trust us to share their fears. How they passionately encouraged each other in that session to make positive choices knowing that behavior and character can be transformed by shifting our thinking patterns. ... See MoreSee Less

So today I wear my heart on my sleeve by acknowledging that I am still emotionally overwhelmed by our activities over the weekend. What we take for granted, could mean the world to someone who has never had the privilege.

Less than 10km is all that separates our 9 ECD teachers from Vrygrond, from the
Norval Foundation in Steenberg estate, but they are worlds apart in terms of natural surroundings. This is where we took the teachers to explore the exquisite South African garden art and for all of them, it was a first time experience. This came after a few days when there had been community protesting on voting day and weeks of burst sewerage pipes in the community- they excitedly welcomed and explored this beautiful, peaceful place and to all, it was an experience they will never forget.

Thank you Norval Foundation Café for treating us like royalty and allowing these amazing ladies to know they are valuable and that they are women of worth.
